BowTieBibs

Posts have been a bit scarce lately and I do apologize. The reason behind this is the wife and I have been getting ready to welcome Dandy Jr. into the world and needless to say, we’ve been busy. With than in mind, I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be stepping away from the blog for a little bit as we start this new and exciting chapter in our lives. Fear not. Posts will still be appearing, just not everyday, and certainly not in the next couple of days. If I do manage to get a break between feedings, diaper changes, and caring for the Mrs, I’ll try and upload some Dandy outfit posts. Of course they may or may not be featuring my son. No promises.

With all that in mind, check out these awesome Bow Tie Bibs for Bow Tie Friday! What can I say, our family and friends know us well.

Thanks for reading everyone, and as always, stay Dandy.

DesignerTies

My good friend and fellow Dandy Mr. D’Angelo was ever so kind to offer me some fabulous bow ties as a belated birthday gift including this fantastic Pucci piece on the left.  A larger size than your standard bow tie, these have a great old school feel and are a welcome addition to my bow tie collection. The only problem now is deciding which one to wear…

Online shop 5-Knots is being graceful enough to extend another discount to Buffalo Dandy readers. Enter code ”TIEONEON” to receive 15% off your entire purchase from this month’s collection. Offer expires 1/27/13.

One of my favorites from their current collection is this Mustard Bow Tie from Hank’s Haberdashery. The company launched just a few months ago with a collection of handmade bow ties, each carefully constructed with a mix of new and vintage fabrics. Each design is hand-cut and crafted in Seattle, Washington, using only natural fibers.

SkinnyFatties

This has nothing to do with bow ties, but it’s such a fantastic idea I just had to share. SKINNYFATTIES is a new Brooklyn-based tailoring service which takes your outdated fat ties and re-sews them into trendier, skinny ties. With most new neckties costing anywhere from $40-$90, SKINNYFATTIES offers this service for only $30. Considering most second-hand stores charge about $1 for an old tie, this is the perfect solution after finding those Goodwill gems you can’t quite rock because they’re just too obnoxiously wide. Or if you’re just tight on cash and want a slick looking tie.

After mailing in your cravat, SKINNYFATTIES will reshape and restitch your tie, adjust the loop labels, iron them, roll them into metal tins to prevent creasing and reship them FREE within a week of receiving said tie.

To sweeten the deal even further, for each tie purchased and every tie tailored, a $1 donation is made to Career Gear, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that helps men transition into the workforce.

Wooden Bow Ties

WoodBowTie

I’ve been having a lot of people writing me about the Two Guys Bow Tie Company and their Wooden Bow Ties that have been blowing up the interwebs. I tend to usually shy away from pre-tied options, however, I don’t think these really count.

The bow ties are made of the finest, hard to find wood, premium fabrics and leather straps. What I like about these which definitely set them apart are the embossed patterns on the wood which mimic various tie fabrics. Combined with the natural grain of the wood, the overall effect is very handsome and makes it look even more like real bow tie. The sizing appears to be spot on; not too big, not too small. If you’re looking for something different for your upcoming wedding, custom made options are also available.

Hickoree’s has quickly become one of my favorite new sites. The Brooklyn-based store offers several amazing heritage inspired brands, with items ranging from clothing, accessories, stationary and even home goods. One of my favorite pieces on the site is this great Herringbone Gingham Check Bow Tie from The Hill-side (who subsequently have a fantastic how-to video on their site). Made in the USA with fabric from Japan, this is basically everything I’m looking for a in a bow tie right now.
