Archive for August, 2012

I saved the final PROJECT recap for Bow Tie Friday to showcase some of the fabulous bow ties I saw at the trade show. One of the things I loved most about PROJECT was being introduced to so many new brands. Ties played a huge part in this years show, and it seemed to that every Dandy line had at least some bow ties to showcase. Below are some of my favorites and some companies certainly worth looking into.

Listed below are Ivy Prepster, Krochet Kids, Riggs and Bancroft, Dibi Ties, Gear Collective, Artfully Disheveled, Tailor Vintage, Brinko Bow Ties, Wood Thumb and LOK’D.

While PROJECT was a blast, I couldn’t resist getting out and doing some actual shopping in Vegas. While walking though The Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino, I happened upon STITCHED and to say I was impressed would be an understatement. Voted Best Men’s Clothing Store in Las Vegas by The Las Vegas Review Journal, STITCHED is “a lifestyle destination for gentlemen with discerning tastes and unique sensibilities combining classic and contemporary style, with an irreverent twist.”

Taking a more Dandy approach their bold street label, A BATHING APE has released their Lookbook for the Fall/Winter 2012 continuation of their collaborative brand: Mr. BATHING APE. Teaming with Japanese retailer United Arrows, the Lookbook features APE’s founder Nigo who exudes class in the collection’s woolen suits, dress shirts, bow ties, leather Gatsby’s and wingtip shoes which give the perfect nod to the pre-exhisting sneaker line. I much prefer the solid to the black and white version of the shoes and I love the logo pattern used for the necktie. The camo blazer also makes a return apprearance which is no surprise with the camo trend still going strong. My favorite, however, is the mustached logo cardigan which must be mine…. no matter the cost! Check out the Lookbook after the jump.

Bow Tie super power The Tie Bar celebrates (Inter)National Bow Tie Day with a video of Dandies all over the world tying their bow ties. With that I leave you with this quote from New York Times author Warren St. John on the Bow Tie:

To its devotees the bow tie suggests iconoclasm of an Old World sort, a fusty adherence to a contrarian point of view. The bow tie hints at intellectualism, real or feigned, and sometimes suggests technical acumen, perhaps because it is so hard to tie. Bow ties are worn by magicians, country doctors, lawyers and professors and by people hoping to look like the above. But perhaps most of all, wearing a bow tie is a way of broadcasting an aggressive lack of concern for what other people think.

Bastille French Whisky

Bastille Whisky is handcrafted in the Cognac region of South-West France using Gensac spring water from Grande Champagne, along with barley and wheat grown in the North of France where many scotch makers get their ingredients. Aged in wooden casks of Limouin oak, cherry and acacia, the final product is a much smoother, fruitier tasking Whiskey without the bitterness or harsh pallet whiskey generally known for. The floral nose and overall flavor may turn off some purists, however I find this to be a most Dandy beverage indeed for sipping on a Summer evening whilst dreaming of Paris. A votre sante!

Summer is still going strong, however many a Dandy seem to be getting the itch for Fall so they can start layering again and dipping into some heavier fabrics. This Cadillac Bow Tie from Hugh Simms is a great transition piece to satiate your yearning for Fall. Hand-crafted in the USA and made of 100% Italian Wool, the Cadillac is “a rough and rugged yet sophisticated bow tie that pairs nicely with a beer and a good time.”
