While you’re out this Small Business Saturday shopping at many of the fine menswear shops in Buffalo like Blue Collar, O’Connell’s and J. Norman & Co, may I also suggest checking out Scherer’s Jewelers. Family owned since 1903, Scherer offers several fantastic Buffalo-themed gifts and accessories as well as an impressive selection of higher-end timepieces like Breitling, Citizen, CYMA, Ebel, Oris, and Maurice Lacroix. Favorites of mine include this Oris Watch, Buffalo Rocks glasses, Buffalo Nickel Wallet and Cufflinks, as well as this bottle opener made from a piece of the Aud.

Kickstarter is truly proving to be an effective tool for companies looking to bring stellar  American-made products to the masses. One such company is Upstate Stock who specializes in high-quality wool gloves and hats which are built to last.

Upstate Stock was born out of simple fact that American manufacturing of the highest quality is still out there, the same manufacturing from decades ago that is both at a standard that very few countries can match, but also affordable. At Upstate we are attempting bring these goods in to a market that they have never had access to in the past. Our factory, located in upstate New York, has been making knit accessories since 1946, both for the military and NYPD. It is our goal to bring these amazing products to the contemporary market, giving the factory a new avenue for sales, and our customers access to quality USA made.

Upstate Stock was kind enough to send me a pair of their Fingerless Ragwool Gloves to give a Dandy test drive and they could not have arrived at a better time. The temps have dropped rather quickly here in Buffalo and we’ve seen our first major snow fall. The gloves are nice and thick, but much softer than your standard wool. They run a little big on my hands but it actually works out because when it gets too cold I just slip my fingers down a little bit and I’m good to go. I love the look of the label, but I also like how Upstate Stock stresses that they are not made to stay on forever and don’t mind if you want to snip it off since “it’s about the product, not the tag”. I find this kind of refreshing and shows how confident Upstate is in their product.

Personally, I prefer the fingerless gloves in the Winter. I like the added dexterity and find it easier to use my iPhone. There are, however, a full finger and mitten option along with the baller deerskin version for extra grip. Watchcaps and beanies are also available.

Their gloves start at a moderate $28, but if you purchase them through their Kickstarter campaign, you can get them for $19! If you’re looking to get a great pair of American-made gloves and want to feel good about doing so, definitely check out Upstate Stock.

The Runway Show wasn’t all there was to see at Mass Appeal 2013. KC You There’s gorgeous VIP Lounge was home some fantastic fashion, as seen both by it’s attendees and by the custom creations for the show. Hair and makeup artists were on hand for those who needed a touch up after making the bitter cold walk from the parking lot and the Piece Arrow building itself really served as a great backdrop for the show.

This years highly anticipated Mass Appeal Show was certainly not without a few hiccups. For starters the venue was freezing, with local fashionistas huddling together for warmth, the craft beer quickly ran dry in the VIP lounge but was luckily restocked with Blue and Blue Light, plus the usual organized/unorganized chaos that often goes along with hosting such an event. I must admit, however, seeing someone spill their beer on the runway literally seconds before the show began was something…. It did however speak to the Elmwood community of togetherness when everyone quickly jumped up and used whatever towel, scarf or accessory they had to quickly clean up the mess. None of this of course mattered, however, once the show began. With the thumping music and a visual feast for the eyes with the animations and models dazzling the runway in a shower of glitter, the cheers from the crowd showed why this is everyone’s favorite fashion event in Buffalo. What also makes this event so great, as the wife pointed out, is how you can see these clothes on the runway and literally go out the next day and buy them on Elmwood. Hiccups aside, the wife and I had a fabulous time and would like to thank Erin Habes and our friends from KC You There for allowing us to attend and cover the event. Below is my compilation of favorite looks from the show, with special props given to Elmwood Menswear newcomer Bureau who offered, in my opinion, the first proper showing of a Menswear brand at a Buffalo Runway Show.

After completely decimating their Kickstarter campaign, British watch makers Rossling & Co. have much to celebrate. Not only do they have an amazing product which they designed from scratch, they now also have the means to bring these incredible timepieces to the masses.

The watches are ultra thin, with a classic, minimal design. Keen attention to detail like the blue hand option and rear titanium casing are great, but what easily sets these watches apart are the tweed straps. Available in several colors and for individual purchase if you want to pass on the watch face, this is a very Dandy alternative to all the leather and nato watch straps which have otherwise ruled the market.

Unfortunately the special introductory price of $99 is long gone, however, the watches are currently available for pre-order at $150 which really isn’t bad considering they look like they cost a lot more. Rossling & Co also won’t be shipping the watches until January, so regrettably you won’t be able to get one in time for Christmas. But for a timepiece this attention grabbing, it’ll surely worth the wait.

This past Saturday, while some of the Manliest men in Buffalo were gorging themselves on meat and hearty ale, some of Buffalo’s Dandiest were at Statler City attending Gatsby Buffalo – a fundraising gala hosted by Renne Nicole Events to benefit the Summit Foundation. Scheduling conflicts abound and not looking to leave my fellow men behind, the wife and I regrettably were unable to attend. Luckily renown photographer Rick Warne was in attendance and captured some incredible photos of the event. With bow ties, tuxes and flapper style abound, this looked like an incredible event that hopefully will become a reoccurring one in Buffalo. Check out all of the photos from the event here.

Mass Appeal, one of Buffalo’s most anticipated fashion events, is nearly upon us. As this event tends to sell out rather quickly, fellow bloggers KC You There have teamed up with Buffalo Dandy to offer 2 V.I.P tickets to the event (a $250 value)!

This year we will provide a hyper-interactive experience with the Mass Appeal crowd, combining our fashion-forward event with a kinetic boost from major community influencers. Adding an interactive dimension to the fashion experience, social media and a curated selection of local designers and art installations will drive the active conversation, carrying it beyond the event. Mass Appeal breaks down the barriers and inspires one to activate. Just push “GO”!

While the show itself will no doubt be fantastic, the VIP experience promises to be equally exciting. VIPs will be stimulated through an environment perfectly crafted for a night of taste, smell, sight, touch and sound. VIP guests can look forward to beer and wine tastings from some of Buffalo’s favorite spirits, delicious hors d’eourves, music by DJ Lulu, a step and repeat with, an interactive video experience by Squeaky Wheel, and – to top it all off – hair and makeup touch-ups from celebrity makeup artist, Katie Ambrose {Photographer & Makeup Artist}. In addition to the exclusive pre-show party, VIP guests will be treated to swag bags and preferred seating at the show. Mass Appeal will be anything but ordinary; its activation will make you #pushgo.
