With the warmer weather finally here, it’s time for certain wardrobe changes to start happening. While this usually means swapping pants for shorts and long sleeves for shorts sleeves, one of the items which can easily be forgotten about is your watch strap. Since winter I’ve been living in my Throne Watch Strap. The chromexcel band looks awesome on my Seiko diver, but once it started getting warmer and my outdoor activities became more frequent, I knew I needed a strap that could hold up through the Summer. It was during my visit to Chicago that I discovered Suigeneric Watch Straps at Haberdash. The heavy duty waxed cotton straps with simple patterns where just what I was looking for. I held off purchasing one at the time, but once I got home it was all I could think about.

My first choice the Blue/White strap. However, once it arrived in the mail, I was rather disappointed in that the color of the strap was more purple than blue and it looked like it had gotten dirty at some point. I sent the strap back and rather quickly I received my second choice, the Navy/Emerald Green strap, which I was much, much happier with.

I feel like these straps are made for Summer. The waxed cotton material is durable and can withstand getting wet either by sweat or by a random hop in the pool. Even better, the straps have more substance than your basic nylon strap. Meaning a heavier watch like my Seiko finally feels secure on the wrist. Also, I don’t have to worry about Dandy Jr. spilling anything on it or tugging at it.

I’ve been wearing the strap pretty much nonstop for the last few weeks and I already love how well it’s broken in. Initially the band was stiff, but now it fits perfectly on my wrist. It’s distressed here and there in the common areas like the buckle holes and the end of the strap. Naturally as soon as I bought it, this particular style ended up going on sale, but Suigeneric was gracious enough credit me the sales price. If you’re looking for something different than your average NATO strap, I cannot recommend Suigeneric enough.

We still have two weeks until Independence Day, but these kicks have caused such a firestorm on the interwebs that you might want to start planning your outfit for the 4th now. A joyous occasion that should never be missed in Buffalo is the Annual Seersucker Ride hosted by the Buffalo Lazy Randonneur Club! Join riders dressed in their Seersuckiest (?) on Sunday, June 22nd at Canalside for the most festive bicycle ride of the Summer. Beginning at the crack of noon, participants will take a jaunty ride through the city and along Buffalo’s waterfront before concluding in Delaware Park. Sadly the Wife, Dandy Jr. and I won’t be able to attend this year, which is a major bummer, but I cannot stress enough how much you’ll want to attend this event if you can.

[via Facebook]
We began the tradition of seasonal rides just to have fun riding bicycles as a group. The success of this simple plan brings us to our fifth year of silliness. We plan on continuing with this as our goal ignoring the athleticism, activism and environmentalism often associated with organized riding. The child plays because he plays. If any good comes of that; well, that’s just fine too.

To participate just show up with an operable bicycle and you are good to go. You will feel more involved if you wear something indicative of the season, especially Seersucker for extra kicks. We will as always ride a slow and safe route along our Buffalo bike paths plying our way toward Delaware Park for a champagne picnic. Make any provisions you like for a memorable picnic just up the hill from Hoyt Lake. I will again bring along Petanque as our customary lawn game for anyone who wants to play. It is at once adequately silly and pomp.

We expect participants to be responsible for own personal safety and belongings. Please have your bicycle ready to go and follow all recommended safe riding advice and regulations. Invite your friends too, See you there.

This past weekend I headed over to Resurgence Brewery Co. with the Buffalo Whiskey Guild to work on a joint post about this new brewery that has gained quite a bit of press lately. I had heard a lot about them both online and through friends asking me about it and was certainly impressed when we arrived. The entire idea behind the brewery comes across quite ingeniously with the space and is a perfect metaphor for Buffalo. The brewery itself is housed in an old factory, with it’s rough brick exterior that looks like it’s been through a thing or two. Once inside, however, you see a completely refurbished and modern space that is welcoming, casual and bright. The long picnic-style wooden tables encourages patrons to sit in larger groups, thus making friends in the City of Good Neighbors even easier. On said tables are a mixture of trivia cards from different boardgames which are sure to spark a few arguments over whether it’s “Moops” or “Moores”, and the giant chalk wall invites the artistic and non-artistic alike to showcase their talents. Once getting a good look around, we ordered a flight of all of the beers currently available at Resurgence which, we were told, is currently their most popular item. Check out BWG for a full rundown of our favorite beers, but in the meantime, I highly recommend stopping by the brewery and not only checking out their amazing interior, but also the incredible outdoor beer garden. With the nights warming up, this will no doubt be a great new hotspot in Buffalo.

Here’s a collaboration we didn’t see coming… Delaware-based Dogfish Head Brewery has teamed up with outdoor heritage brand Woolrich to do a clothing and beer capsule collection. Inspired by the journal of John Rich, founder of Woolrich, Dogfish Head created a craft beer based off Rich’s 1800’s home recipe which is a blend of wheat, rye and tips of Pennsylvania spruce called “The Pennsylvania Tuxedo” after the classic red and black tartan worn by outdoorsmen. Dogfish Head did a stellar job (as they always do) with branding their latest creation and while it may look more like a Fall beer, it nonetheless makes me want to go camping in the wilderness and sip this beer by a fire.

The clothing part of the collaboration is perfect Delaware beach-wear for those who have visited the area. Comprised of a a men’s chambray shirt with nautical themed red and green accent buttons to signify port and starboard, the collection also includes a baseball cap, women’s oxford dress/shirt, coozie and or course, a beach blanket. The clothing will be available on Dogfish Head and Woolrich’s websites soon, while the beer will unfortunately only be available in draft form at Dogfish Head’s Analog A-Go-Go Music Festival next week.

For more info about what inspired the collection, check out the video below.

Before my days as a dapper gentleman, like way back in the day, I fancied myself a surfer. This of course was based on the fact that I had surfed two or three times and wanted nothing more than to be Bodhi from Point Break. Having never moved to SoCal like I planned, I can at least relish in the good old days with this awesome upcoming sweatshirt from Cuisse de Grenouille and Carson Street Clothiers. Based off their original best selling design, the bright navy color and puffy screen-printed graphic is perfectly old school. The French-based brand, which translates into “Frog Legs” and reports to be “for the Gentleman Surfer”, sounds like it was created just for me and I want everything in their collection. The only thing holding me back from snatching this right up is the $150 price tag. I mean, it’s just a sweatshirt. And it’ll be Summer soon. Whatever, I neeeeeeed this.

Father’s Day is almost upon us which means it’s time to start thinking about a gift for Dandy father figure in your life. I’ve compiled a collection of fine gifts, many locally available , to make things easy on you. So get shopping and show dad how much he really means to you.

Three Men in a Boat – Most dads don’t have time to sit around and read, but this classic gentleman’s novel by Jerome K. Jerome is a quick read full of travel, style and hilarious whit.

Wrafterbuilt Mobi-Stand – Made of reclaimed wood right here in Buffalo, this simple, rustic looking tool is perfect for propping up your smartphone for easy reading at a desk or table.

Bureau Liquid Swordz Silk Knit Tie – Not only does Bureua have a handsome collection of silk knit ties in a variety of colors, the amazing names for these ties make them even cooler. A favorite of mine and a perfect color for Summer is the Liquid Swordz.

O’Connell’s Needlepoint Buffalo Belt – He wears the pants in the family, so be sure his pants stay up with this handsome Smather’s & Branson Needlepoint Belt custom designed by O’Connell’s.

Ray-Ban Clubmaster – Sure your dad has classic style, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still look hip. Update his look with these reflective green Ray-Bans for the perfect mix of JFK and Kanye.

Shinola Runwell Chrono – Get him a watch he will hopefully hand-down to you one day with this big daddy of a timepiece.

Bass Weejuns – Give his barking dogs a rest in these timeless penny loafers.
