We love a good work boot here at Buffalo Dandy. We especially love when said boots are made in the U.S.A. But to hear of a quality boot which has been made in Buffalo for over a century is unheard of. Enter P.W Minor Boots. The company was founded by two brothers, Peter Wycoff and Abraham Minor, while making the long trek back from the Civil War to their home in Interlaken, New York. As they walked, the brothers came up with an idea to create a company which would hand-craft quality footwear for men and women. Footwear that helped people stay on their feet, keep them comfortable as well as productive. 150 years and four generations later, the Minor family is still crafting shoes in their factory in Batavia, NY.
After exploring their website, the Witherspoon Boot really caught my eye. A vintage-style gentlemen’s work boot which is made using traditional artisan methods. Hand-crafted in Batavia, NY from hand-selected, plump rich leather and stitched using a full welt construction, the boot is an authentic, American hand crafted product which provides exquisite comfort and quality. With hand-rubbed Chromexcel® Premium leather uppers, breathable Dri-Lex® mesh top cover and forefoot lining to reduce bacteria and manage moisture, full welt construction and oiled 8 iron butyl leather sole, these boots have all the makings of the high-quality work boots available elsewhere and then some.
Now here is where the story gets really interesting. I’ve only just heard about P.W.Minor after reading this article by The Buffalo News. It turns out P.W.Minor was on the verge of shutting down last July until new owners came in and not only saved the factory, but is also planning on bringing over 100 jobs back from China to P.W.Minor! As one of the few remaining U.S shoe manufactures and the oldest company in Genessee County, these boots are great investment. Not only are you supporting a Made in America product, but a Made in Buffalo product as well.
